Planned Project - National Art Honor Society Paint-Out for Habitat for Humanity - 4 hours
Description: I organized a day on November 17, 2015 for members of my club, National Art Honors Society (NAHS), to stay after school to paint bird houses to be sold at an Arts Festival for Habitat for Humanity in order to raise money for Habitat for Humanity's next building project in Gainesville, FL. This activity falls under the service and creative categories, but was counted towards the service category since NAHS is a service oriented club.
Reflection: The main goal of this planned event was to complete all the birdhouses before the pick-up date set by the coordinator with my club sponsor. Ten members attended the activity and many stayed for the full four hours between 3 and 7 p.m. We put on music, shared creative ideas on how to paint the birdhouses, critiqued each others' work, and helped varnish the birdhouses once they were dry. To me it felt like a unifying day for the club because it was the first major project we had all gotten together at once to do. As the club president it was satisfying to see the club members all collaborating towards a single goal. We all had different artistic styles and aesthetic tastes so it was interesting to see the designs each member came up with. I stuck to a simple garden inspired design with flowers and rabbits (pictures below) while others created whole scenes of the sky or ocean and others went for a more abstract design. Since the activity day was so successful I felt that I have grown as a leader who can organize and execute my plans in a timely manner. It was also beneficial to have a closer interaction with my members and establish a better relationship with them.
